The theme of this anthology is "What if Cthulhu doesn't eat us?" While most Mythos writers assume that the Great Old Ones will be the end of us, the truth is that humanity is of so little consequence that it may only be in our own deluded pride that we think it would require Cthulhu to awaken from his eternal slumber to wipe our seven-billion (and counting!) strong infection from the surface of the planet. By itself, this is a novel theme, compared to anthologies like Cthulhu's Reign which focus on the purported apocalypse or its aftermath.
