Leírás:
Truly a magnificent item the early 1970s and the resurgence of H.P. Lovecraft into our world. Published as sort of part tribute book and part scrapbook, with assembled pieces from many that new him. Written word, photographs, artwork, and so forth. With The Normal Lovecraft, Talman, a onetime friend of HP, and a youthful member of the famed Kalem Club (new York City) of the 1920s, this book adds another chapter to the "Lovecraft story." This memoir was written by Talman especially for this book. Also presented (for the first time, as of 1973) is a short piece on Lovecraft and his wife, Sonia, by L. Sprague de Camp. De Camp had spent a lot of time, up to the publishing of this book, in exhaustive study and research of Lovecraft, which resulted in the mid-1970s biography on HPL. Also published here are several letters written by Sonia Davis some years after her separation from Lovecraft. Accompany the text is a portfolio of drawings by West Coast artist Tim Kirk, which is presented as wood cuts, and very much in the Lovecraftian theme. Also several previously unpublished photos of Lovecraft taken by Talman (my favorite showing HPL playing around with Frank B. Long, showing that he DID actually have a lighter side). Finally, throughout is little pieces of artwork by various artists (my favorite being the several selections by Virgil Finlay). Overall, a nice look at Lovecraft by a group of friends (and ex-wife). |
